In recent times a budding industry has emerged for landlords around college towns renting properties to students that want to live away from campus. Crime is often a big issue around campuses across the country as well. Many colleges are located in relatively urban areas so the vagrant population can be high. Oftentimes homeless people can be seen walking around near campuses and sometimes cause crimes such as breaking and entering or some other senseless deed. Many students think about and then purchase some form of protection, such as pepper spray or anything else so they don’t have to live in fear of a crime being committed against them.

In order to make living off campus a more enjoyable experience for oneself a student must be discriminating about where they choose to make their home. While some areas are undesirable, many great first residences can be found. As a solution to the aforementioned problems students may wish to implement a few strategies. First of all, seeking a street near a police station or if that isn’t available, a well lit street would prevent lots of problems. Second of all, common sense must be used when partying and all cups and cans from the weekends should be cleaned up rather than left to sit in yards. With careful planning, living off campus can be a greatly rewarding experience for any student.
