Drawing Up A Garden And Landscaping Plan
When it comes to the outdoors you really must come up with a garden and landscaping plan before you even begin. Do it yourself landscaping can be undertaken and does not have to be difficult, so you should not be put off, even if you are carry out some research on landscaping before you will be able to make your own garden and landscaping plan however, and there are a few matters in particular that you are going to have to be clear on.
Getting Started
The first thing you will want to do in the process of making your own garden and landscaping plan is to get a plot map of the area you are going to be landscaping. If this map is not available you can do your planning on a piece of graph paper fairly easily as well.
Remember that the best and easiest way to accurately measure a landscape is to start in either the front or backyard. If you are only planning to landscape one or the other this will obviously make the decision very easy but if you want to do both, the best idea is to decide to start with the area that is smaller.
This will allow you to get a bit more experience before moving on to the larger sized one, so you can get a bit of practice in and if you make a mistake here or there it will not be as big of a deal.
Designing
The next step in the process of coming up with a garden and landscaping plan is to begin designing. There are some super ways to get ideas, for instance take a look around at your neighbors’ yards. Think about what you like and dislike about each and what plants work and what ones don’t.
Remember that there are going to be differences between your yard and your neighbors’ yards, and so what works in their garden may not be so aesthetically appealing in yours.
Also think about how you want to use your backyard - not just now but in the months and years ahead. Do you want an area for relaxing or entertaining? If so, building a pergola might be desirable. Learn more about pergolas in these informative articles

When you have finished your garden and landscaping plan you can really get into it and start planting. But do not rush this stage. Take all the time you need. It’s far better to take the time to ponder and consider now than rush into things and have regets later on.
You can generally find everything you need at your local home and garden store, but remember that there are also many specialty shops and stores available that you may want to check out to find the landscaping elements that you need.
