How Do You Hire A Good Plumber In Today’s Market?

What would you say if we offered to give you the inside scoop on how to find a good plumber? With economic hardships, homeowners will agree that desperate measures must be taken. When trying to save money on home repairs, you shouldn’t throw caution to the wind and let just anyone work on your plumbing repairs. Allowing an uninsured, unlicensed handyman to do the work will probably cost you more in the long run, doing more harm than good.

As a homeowner, you may feel that small plumbing issues can be repaired yourself. But, there are some problems such as water heater repair or replacement that should be left to the professional. Regardless of whether or not you are faced with a plumbing emergency or have an extensive home improvement project you want to take on, the process of finding out how to find a good plumber can be more than overwhelming.

Knowing the name of the Responsible Master Plumber is something you should know for any company you might hire. Their license number should be found in all advertisements and starts with the letter ‘M’ according to the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE). Companies without the number of a Master Plumber are not legally allowed to operate a company .

After that, go online to the TSBPE website to find out if the Master Plumber license number is valid and see if the company has a Certificate of Insurance that is current and valid. Next spend a few moments checking with the TSBPE Enforcement Division to see if there is a record of any valid complaints against the company. Then go one step further and contact the Better Business Bureau to see if there are any complaints.

You can also go to the local municipal plumbing inspection department to see if there are any complaints that were not filed with the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners. Check if all prerequisites necessary to do business in your area have been met and if your job will require any permits or inspections from the city. Because prices are not regulated, it will be to your advantage to get at least three price estimates before you make a commitment.

Put everything in writing including warranties and cost estimates. Ask the plumber to be as detailed as possible when drawing up the plumbing contract so that the work to be performed and the amount to be paid are crystal clear. Each written estimate and any invoices should always have the contact information for the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners and the Responsible Master Plumbers license number included.

Ask each plumbing company to provide references and then verify that the customer was actually satisfied with the work before you hire any particular company. Avoiding liens against your home is also important. Do not give the plumber the final payment on a major job unless you have received a lien release or a waiver showing that everyone, including suppliers and subcontractors, has received payment.

So there you have it. With the current economy, knowing how to find a good plumber is important. You don’t need to be an expert to receive excellent plumbing services. However you do have to be diligent in researching the right plumber or plumbing contractor for your job. You deserve and should have the best when it comes to your plumbing.
