Making the exterior of your house beautiful with lots of greenery and colorful flowers
A beautiful, put-together home is well-decorated on the inside. Each room has its own look that harmonizes with all of the other rooms while still reflecting the personality of the occupant of the room. Everyone knows this. But the outside of the house is just as important. It benefits from design and decoration, too. Beautiful trees, bushes, and plants turn a house from a naked domicile to a beautiful home. The landscaping is what dresses up the outside of your home. I mentioned trees, bushes, and plants as a representation of the three levels of plantings. hostas work well as edging plants. A hosta is a great additional to the landscaping.
The principle purpose of the hosta is to provide a bed or expanse of greenery. While they have flowers, these flowers are not the source of beauty of the plant, as are the flowers on a geranium. They are merely a phase of the life cycle the plant. The reason for being is the foliage. Each plant puts out a large number of leaves that are wide and often heart-shaped. Most of the varieties also have deep ribs. You will be amazed by the range of colors of these varieties. The common ones are a solid bright green. Hues can range from this bright green to dark green and even blue. You can find variegated ones that have multicolored leaves. These are a combination of green and creamy yellow. But there is a lot of variation in the variegateds. Some are white in the middle. Some have a white edging on the leaf. And some are striped. Hostas thrives mostly shady areas. Some morning sun is good for them, but afternoon sun will probably dry them out and kill them. Another problem with hostas is that they are a tasty treat for the local deer. Hostas do not stand a chance when there are deer in the area.
While hostas provide a spread of greenery, your plantings look even better when there is a lot of color in the landscaping. You can take the color in two directions. You can choose a color and use it exclusively, or you can have a variety of colors. When you mix colors in the garden, they can be either related shades of the same color, or you can plant every color of the rainbow. Remember: In nature, there are no clashing colors. Geraniums are good plants for giving your garden bright splashes of color. Create this mental picture, salmon-colored geraniums alternated with purple petunias. It may sound strange and garish, but actually it is a bright and beautiful combination. Another attractive display is bright red geraniums, white sweet alyssum, and purple ageratum. Geraniums can be planted in the ground but also look beautiful in a hanging basket.
Geraniums are not the only colorful flowers for your landscaping. Many people love impatiens. Many people plant begonias in shades of red, pink and white. This choice gives you nothing but a lot of red and white. For a better combination brighter show of bright colors, plant zinnias. These happy blooms come in small and large sized and just about every color that flowers come in.
