Modern Bathroom Cabinets Bring Your Bathroom Into The New Century
Years ago when someone described a bathroom cabinet, or a medicine cabinet, it usually meant the same thing. They meant that little, usually metal cabinet mounted on the bathroom wall and used to hold aspirin and other small bathroom items.
Almost every bathroom had some type of small wall mounted metal shelving unit fastened on the wall. The door was also made of white enameled metal and usually had a mirror attached. Functional, yes; but leaving a little to be desired in terms of design or visual interest.
We’ve Come A Long Way Since Then
The way that our bathroom cabinets look and even the way that we use them has changed a lot since then. There are now a nearly limitless variety of styles and colors available to consumers which are stylish and yes, still very much functional.
The days of “any color you want, as long as it’s white” are gone and there are now bathroom cabinets bathroom cabinets in materials which include wicker, plastic, bamboo, polished nickel and chrome. You have a lot of different styles to choose from as well which allow homeowners to make something which once had only a functional purpose into something which adds favorably to the look and feel of their bathroom.
Vanity Bathroom Cabinets Are A Popular Option
When you look for a bathroom cabinet today, you can find a variety of great styles from which to choose. Usually this term refers to what is now known as a bathroom vanity. This cabinet houses the bathroom sink and faucets. There will be a vanity counter top which can be made from tile, marble or any number of other materials. There are usually 2 or more doors in this cabinet that allow access to an under-sink storage area, and a large number of these bathroom cabinets will have pull out drawers included.
The vanity cabinet is usually what you’ll want to match your bathroom cabinet mounted on the wall above your sink. The cabinets are mounted flush to the wall and are usually shallow, but may be as wide or as tall as desired. In addition to mirrored doors, these fixtures usually have interior shelving and mirrored doors.
Size And Style Are Important
Bathroom cabinets are available in any size which you could possibly want, with some large enough to provide a place for linens and towels to be stored. Space is often at a premium in many bathrooms and homeowners are appreciative when they are able to find a versatile and stylish bath cabinet capable of increasing the amount of storage space in the room.
American and European Style Bathroom Cabinets
The two basic types of bathroom cabinet are the American and the European styles.
The American cabinets generally rely on face-framing to complete the appearance. This means that the doors, mirrors, or some other type of covering frames the front of the shelves giving it a closed appearance. European-style bathroom cabinets differ in that they have open shelving with only a bare minimum of trim on the framework of the shelving.
Choosing Your Bathroom Cabinets
When shopping for bathroom cabinets you can choose from cabinets which are stock, custom or modular. Stock cabinets have been mass produced and are only available in those sizes and styles which the manufacturer saw fit to produce. While these are typically the cheapest cabinets, there is the disadvantage that they are available in a limited selection of colors, sizes and styles.
You’ll have more choices of size and style with modular cabinets. For the connoisseur who wants a bathroom cabinet that stands out from the crowd a custom piece is the one to choose.
Custom bathroom cabinets are made to the specifications you choose and will be made from your choice of materials in the color, size and style you want.
