The Art Of Pressure Washing
For those of us who have used a pressure washer there is no real need to point out that washing the house or outside decking wasn’t quite as easy as we thought that it would be. I know that after my first few botched attempts I did finally learn that there is an actual art to pressure washing. In fact, I am sure that many homeowners have found that there is quite a bit more involved than purely renting a machine and blasting the mould off your property.
For example; when pressure washing London your wooden decking, most people don’t know that using household bleach to get rid of the mould and mildew from your deck will, in point of fact, damage the lignin fibres of the wood, and also, too much pressure can actually damage the woods surface and cause it to splinter or fur. Another thing to watch out for when using a pressure washer is that you must clean with the grain of the wood the complete length of the board. By altering your distance from the wood or not going with the grain you could cause marks and discolorations to become visible.
If you are using a pressure washer prior to repainting your house it can be a very useful tool, getting rid of mould, dirt, loose flakes of paint and other key contributors to paint failure. However, bear in mind that the pressure washer is not a paint remover, you need a scraper and sandpaper for that – in fact, if your are removing paint then you are using too much pressure and could damage the structure and it might well lead to water ingress.
As you can see – there is a lot more to the art of pressure cleaning London than at first meets the eye so take care that you know what you are doing or, better still, simply use a professional.
