What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Electric Chainsaws?

As a homeowner, do you find projects in your yard that call for occasional use of a chainsaw? Are you a little intimidated by the size and weight of a gas-powered chainsaw? An electric chainsaw, on the other hand, may be just what you need.

Advantages of an Electric Chainsaw.

An electric chainsaw provides a number of advantages over gasoline-powered saws. Here are the considerations:

1. Lower Weight

A distinct advantage of electric chainsaws over gas models is their lighter weight along with ease of handling.

2. Less Tiring

Operating a gas-chainsaw can become tiring. Cutting with heavy, cumbersome chainsaws often causes fatigue and is one of the biggest complaints cited by consumers. However, since they are smaller, lighter, and more easily manageable, an electric chainsaw is more suitable for managing home-gardens.

3. Lower cost to Purchase and Maintain

Another advantage is that electric chainsaws are less costly to buy and maintain than their gas cousins. Moreover, they’re cheaper to operate and do not require periodic visits to the gas station.

4. They’re Quieter

Electric chainsaws are considerably quieter to operate than the gas-powered variety. Your neighbors will appreciate it.

5. Not Toxic to the Environment

There are no toxic emmissions into the environment from electric chainsaws.

6. They’re Safer

A major advantage of working with an electric chainsaw is the reduced risk of kickback, a potentially life-threatening situation occurring when the saw’s bar jerks back toward the user after the bar’s end hits some obstruction. The difference is that an electric is operated with less power than a gas chainsaw, thus reducing the risk.

7. Easier to Start

Electric chainsaws are also much easier to start.

Disadvantages of an Electric Chainsaw

There are a few disadvantages to electric chainsaws in comparison with gas-powered units.

1. Power is Limited

An electric chainsaw is noticeably low on power when compared with the two-cycle engines of more powerful gasoline chainsaws. As a consequence, they are not suitable for heavy cutting jobs, but are useful for lighter jobs around the house or in the garden.

2. Less Mobility

The length of the cord and location of the power source determines the mobility of the saw-operator and it is not feasible for him/her to use it far from the power source or away from the home.

In Summary

You should be mindful that these saws are made for lighter use more suitable for work around the average yard. You shouldn’t attempt to cut down a 150-year-old oak tree with it! If your need for a tool of this type involves anything in the deep woods, you may want a gas driven chainsaw instead.

An electric chainsaw is certainly a solid choice for the average homeowner.
