The soil in a raised bed remains more porous than a regular garden bed as water is allowed to flow throught it more easily making it a much better way to grow. If you’re growing flowers in them then they will receive a lot of nutrients from the soil and should be on a par with the sort of plants you’d get from a really good flower shop.
Those of you that like growing your own vegetables will benefit from the compostion of the soil in a raised garden bed. your home grown vegetables will benefit from the mixture of top soil and compost combined with excellent drainage through the bed. When growing your own vegetables you can control the growing environment more easily. This allows you to remove weeds as soon as they appear and you can also plant companion herbs and vegetables to control insects.
There are a few simple things that you can do should you decide to install a raised garden bed that will help you to get the best results from your seeds. You want your raised garden bed to get the most amount of sunshine possible. You want to try and position the bed so that it is facing north so that it gets the maximum amount of sunlight. They can also become dried out easily so it is important to monitor the moisture level of the soil. Moisture levels can often be controlled by making sure you water the bed during the morning and in the evening. Another good idea is to create a channel between a row of vegetables that will help the areas around the vegetables from becoming flooded by rainfall.
