Choosing Between Laminate Floors and Hardwood Floors

Installing new flooring or carpet in your house can be a big expense, so you want to be certain that you make the correct choice. Although hardwood is very popular at the moment, itis also one of the more expensive options, so many folk are choosing laminate types that mimic the look of hardwood flooring. Which kind of flooring is right for you? Let’s look a little more closely at the options so that you can make an informed decision.

We’ll begin with hardwood flooring. There are a lot of benefits if you choose this option. Firstly, hardwood will increase the value of your home, and might make it less complicated to sell if you should ever decide to do so. This is also one of the longest lasting types of flooring. Over time it’ll even begin to look better, and if you must ever want to return it to it’s original look you can get it recoated. Finally, if you choose one of the hardwood surfaces with a urethane finish it’ll be as easy to care for as other kinds of floors and you will not need to fret about waxing it.

With hardwood, there are more things to think about besides the higher cost. It can scratch, and it shouldnot be installed in full loos because the humidity can warp the floor. It would also be more difficult to make the transitions between flooring types given the thickness of some kinds of hardwood floor, and not all kinds can be installed below grade level.

As for laminate flooring, this is another nice option. They have so many different designs to choose between, lots of which look like differing types of natural materials, including hardwood, tile, and stone. With this option you get the look of natural materials at only a fraction of the pricetag. It also doesn’t scratch as simple as wood does, so it is good for households that have youngsters or pets. Since these floors are put together by attaching interlocking pieces rather than gluing them to the subfloor, it is very easy to put the flooring in yourself, permitting you an opportunity to save money on installation as well as the flooring itself. Laminate floors also need the use of fewer trees than hardwood surfaces, so it can be more environmentally responsible.

Naturally there are some things to think about when installing laminate flooring. You want to ensure that you install it properly, otherwise there might be a hollow sound when you walk on it. It also doesn’t add as much value to your home as natural floors. While it does last pretty well, it will not last as long as natural floors and it can’t be refinished.
