Kitchen Design Ideas: Creating The Kitchen Of Your Dreams

Well, it’s about time to finally remodel that old, way out-of-date kitchen of yours. You might have a few kitchen remodeling ideas of what you want your new kitchen to look like, but you just don’t seem to be able to put all of the pieces together in your head. Or perhaps you have absolutely no idea how to even begin this project, but you know for sure that the kitchen as it stands must go immediately. Before you start, though, consider a few of these things that will help your remodeling go smoothly and bring you the kitchen of your dreams.

Start with Cabinets

One of the best places to start is with the cabinetry. Not only will the cabinetry tend to dominate the look of the kitchen, but building kitchen cabinets may also take the majority of your budget. Don’t make the mistake of doing other parts of the kitchen remodel first and end up with short funds to finish out the cabinetry.

The best way to begin the process is to consult with a cabinetry professional. These people know what you’re looking for and will design your kitchen properly so that you’ll have every option available to you that you want. For instance, if you want lazy Susans in all your corner cabinets they will make sure there is the proper amount of space left to accommodate them. This professional will also know if there are any inherent problems with your layout and help you change them. For example, your plumbing may need to be moved so you have enough room to accommodate a new dishwasher. Planning for a small kitchen remodeling may also present some challenges due to limited space.

Get Your Appliances

If you’re redoing your kitchen from the ground up, then this is the best time to get new appliances. The new appliances are better designed. The new designs and features actually make life a little easier for you. They are also more energy efficient so they will save you on your monthly utility bills.

The look of your new appliances should compliment your cabinetry. White appliances may not go well with your new cabinetry - there is however, stainless steel. You also need to let your cabinet builder know of any appliances that are not standard sized. This, too, will change your layout. An example of this might be if you choose a Sub-zero refrigerator. They are much larger than a regular refrigerator and will need to have the correct room allowed for it.

Other Considerations

You should also incorporate your seating into your new dream kitchen layout. In many homes, the kitchen is considered the heart of the house so that you’ll want to include lots of seating. Many times, you’ll be able to do this simply by adding an island for people to gather around.

Flooring, too, is an important consideration. Keep in mind your other kitchen colors, how well it hides dirt (if this is a consideration), and how easy it is to clean. A beautiful floor can be a good thing, but it’s not going to stay high on your list of favorites for long if it’s impossible to clean. Do your homework and ask around before you choose your flooring.

When you’re trying to design your dream kitchen, keep a few things in mind. Start with a cabinet professional, they know the ins and outs of kitchen design and they can properly lay out your kitchen so that all the extras that you were hoping for will come together perfectly.
