Sound Advice For Designing Your Kid’s Bathroom

Decorating a bathroom that is used by a child presents its own unique challenges. Young children are frequent visitors to the bathroom, making this many times the most used room in the home. However, the bulk of parents have not the faintest idea where to start in decorating a bathroom for their child. Children can be vocal about things they dislike, so parents of young kids sometimes find that their design choices are less-than-welcome. We’ll offer some tips and tricks so that you can decorate your kid’s bathroom in a way that you’ll both like.

Knowing The Gender Behind The Decorations

When decorating a child’s bathroom, start from the gender of the child and work from that starting point. A boy’s bathroom can be decorated to appeal to his interest in specific passions such as cars, cowboys, bugs, etc. A bathroom used by a young girl can be decorated to appeal to other passions that a boy may not be interested in such as dolls or princesses. If a bathroom will be used by children of both genders, then a neutral theme should be worked towards while providing for the interests of both children. For every need or theme, there are plenty of accessories that you can use.

What Accessories And Decorations Can Be Used?

There are dozens of accessories that you can use to decorate a kid’s bathroom. For example, if your child enjoys cars, you can buy a bathmat and curtain set that have cars on them. Similarly, if your child likes Disney cartoons, you can use bathroom rugs with pictures of Mickey or Minnie, for example, in their bathrooms.

Even toothbrush tumblers are available in many different styles. How about a princess shaped one if your child is a girl, or a dinosaur shaped tumbler for a boy? Soap dispensers come in many styles too and can also be used to enliven children’s bathrooms with their favorite characters, animals and more.

Other things that can be used to decoration a child’s bathroom includes knobs, waste baskets, tissue dispenser and soap dishes.

You can even decorate the knobs on the bathroom wall cabinets or drawers in your child’s bathroom to ones which will appeal to them.

You can choose from soccer balls, jungle animals, clown faces, or the like. It all depends on children’s preferences. Similar interests can be reflected in other decorations.

As Your Child Changes, so Does the Bathroom

It’s no secret that your child’s tastes will change as they get older. As your child’s interests change, the bathroom theme must also change. Shower curtains, bathmats, soap dispensers and tumblers can all be replaced to reflect these changes.

You should avoid the use of decorations which will be hard to switch out as your child ages. For example, wallpaper with images of Cinderella on it may be very age-appropriate when a girl is three, but will be entirely inappropriate during adolescence, which means that the wallpaper will need to be replaced.

However you choose to decorate your kids bathroom is limited only by your own imagination – there are so many options open to you that the hardest part will be choosing which to go with. If you know your child and what he or she likes, you’ll be able to decorate the bathroom appropriately in the first place and then can change the theme as he or she gets older. A little planning will long way towards designing a bathroom perfect for your child, no matter what they are into this year.
