The modernism fashion in furniture design was divided into different styles since its beginning during the early 20th century, and among the most interesting of these is the Danish Modern Style. If one were to decide to own only sole piece of Danish modern furniture, Arne Jacobsen’s Egg Chair would be a good choice. Also namedplainly as the Egg, the Egg Chair is a leather-covered chair created by Danish architect Arne Jacobsen in 1958 for the Radisson SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. The Egg was created to the reception and lobby parts of the hotel, and its rounded body was to balance the hard surfaces of the structure.

As with vintage Danish modern furniture, the 18-kg Egg Chair was equally light for its size. However, instead of customary wood materials the main part of the chair is made from a light plaster shell inserted with cold synthetic foam. This was soon after changed in latest models with lighter but tough glass fiber reinforcement and polyurethane foam.
