Kick Start your Dream Home Automation Project

Automating your home is a progressive task. You start by automating a simple function, like your lights, then gradually expand to climate control, then security, and so on. Of course, you could automate everything in one shot, but for sure that would cost you a lot of money, time, and effort. And you may end up getting professional help which will make your endeavor even more expensive. Worse yet, you might screw it up, given your inexperience. What is the best way to defeat this conundrum? A home automation starter kit lets you ease into the process at a minimal investment.
As a beginner, it’s frustrating trying to shop on big smart home retailer sites. I get simultaneously information overload and underload. There are thousands and thousands of products that do a ton of things and run on several different signal protocols. I didn’t know where to start. But at the same time I was completely underwhelmed. There wasn’t enough information to support the vast amount of products, and I didn’t even know what half the products were for or what they did. Why would I pay $39.99 for something I know nothing about? Hell, why spend any money at all?
I like to think of automating a home in terms of trading card games (yes I’m a big dork who played Magic: The Gathering). When you’re just starting out, you have a beginner’s set that introduces you to the main functions and teaches you basic elements of the game. Then as you get used to it, you start expanding your deck - you buy “booster packs” to get better cards and learn the more intermediate level strategies of the game while gradually expanding your deck. Once you’re really into it and you get into the really advanced stuff, something interesting happens. You start to want very specific cards, and you go shopping specifically for them. By now you know the entire lingo that gets tossed around, so you have no trouble obtaining exactly what you want.
The process should be the same for home automation. You begin with a home automation starter kit to learn the system. Once you understand the system structure and how it works, you can start installing more and more modules. And this is where that interesting thing happens - you start wanting specific products. Better yet, you understand all the technical jargon, so you can finally understand the cryptic product descriptions on websites.
Designing and building your smart home should be simple, easy, and most importantly, fun. A home automation starter kit helps you focus on what is important in the beginning, and allows you to grow and expand your system as you become more experienced.
